Me: "Ms. Holroyd, what are we doing today?"
Gym teacher: "Courtney, just go dress out and then I'll give everyone instructions."
Me: "Can we do aerobics?"
Gymn teacher: "We did aerobics every day last week. Today we're starting volleyball."
Me: (insert gasp of horror) "Volleyball??"
Gymn teacher: "Yes, and you had better keep your eyes open and attempt to hit the ball. I better not see any more duck-and-cover from you!"
It's a miracle that she didn't fail me for all the whining I did. So poor Stewart had his work cut out for him when it came to getting me running. Luckily for him, the fifteen post-wedding pounds that have crept back on in the last two years helped provide me with a little motivation of my own. So off we went....
Now, we might be motivated but we're not delusional, we knew there would be no marathons any time soon for us. So Stewart found us a plan to follow on Cool Running: From Couch-to-5K. We don't actually have a 5K that we're working toward, but we figured we'd find one eventually. The plan gives you a workout to do three times during a week, before moving on to the next level. We're on week two, which consists of running for 90 seconds and then walking for 2 minutes, for a total of 20 minutes (plus a warm-up and cool-down). The first day we started was rough, but I'm actually already starting to look forward to our workouts. According to the plan we should be running 3 miles continuously in about 8 more weeks. I'll let you know how we do!
PS Those are my fantastic Asics pictured above...I'm probably the most unathletic person to ever spend so much on running shoes.
